About this experience
I invite you to take a walk through the colorful streets of the colonial center. This is where the city began, and I will tell you how it all started. You will learn about the early history of Singapore, urban legends, and strange modern laws. We will visit the Supreme Court, the Parliament building, and the first Christian cathedrals. And we will end at the luxurious Raffles Hotel: with stories about local legends and its famous guests.
What to Expect
Heart of Singapore
Right here, on the banks of the Singapore River, in the early 19th century, representatives of the British East India Company landed and established a trading port. Later, Singapore became a colony of the British Empire and a citadel of Southeast Asia.
We will stroll through the historical center of the city, where everything began. You will learn how a hidden threat from the Russian Geographical Society pushed the British to make Singapore their trading post. What dark events took place at the most famous Raffles Hotel. And what local dish you must try while you are here.
From fishing village to economic hub
During the tour, we will visit several historical buildings. At the Supreme Court building (now the National Gallery), we will discuss the unusual and strict laws of Singapore. At the City Hall, you will learn about the important historical events that took place within its walls. I will also show you the Masonic lodge and the first Christian temples.
As you stroll through the colonial center, you will see how Singapore evolved from a fishing village to an international economic hub. What triggered its development, what advantages Singapore had, and what makes this city-state unique today.
