About this experience
I invite you to take a walk along an unusual route and see the harmonious Singapore through the eyes of a local resident! I will guide you through the vibrant streets of the ethnic Chinatown to the ancient temple and amidst the skyscrapers of the business districts. Step by step, you will learn how Singapore began, how it achieved economic success, what it lives on today, and how it looks to the future.
What to expect
Chinatown: blending cultures of Singapore
We will meet in a colorful corner of the city where souvenirs are sold everywhere, along with amazing street food. We will walk along a street where Chinese clans historically settled, and today cult bars and stylish cafes are located. We will stroll along Amoy street and Telok Ayer – the 'settlement' of the first immigrants. And, of course, we will find the oldest Chinese temple in Singapore. I am sure you will notice the contrast of skyscrapers and colorful houses in Chinatown: I will tell you what they used to be and why they were preserved. Why Singapore has several ethno-quarters and why the population is so diverse ethnically.
Understanding Singapore's features
At the Architectural Centre, you will find a layout of the entire city-state: here you will understand the scale of the country and find every landmark. In the second part of the tour, we will walk through the Central Business District and Speakers' Corner, Singapore's Hyde Park. We will talk about eco-architecture at the Park Royal Hotel — the building has received awards for design and engineering features. Against the backdrop of these places, I will reveal to you the secrets of the 'Singapore miracle'. In a couple of hours, you will learn:
- How they managed to create such a green and clean city;
- Why the government pays so much attention to high standards of living;
- Which companies' offices are located in the skyscrapers of the financial district and what attracted them to Singapore;
- Why there are such expensive cars here and a ban on chewing gum imports;
- How Singapore supplies a 5-million city with energy, water, and food, what it does with waste, and how it develops industry;
- What are the future development projects of Singapore.
To conclude, we will reach the Clarke Quay promenade, a favorite place for relaxation and entertainment by the locals: I will suggest which of the numerous restaurants to have lunch at. After the tour, you can take a river tram to Marina Bay Sands hotel.
