About this experience
The old lady Cartagena is getting better every day for 2500 years! A fortress city and a port city, it has survived construction booms and destruction, wealth and oblivion. You will touch the past, familiar from textbooks, learn about generals and common citizens, remember Byzantium, and hear about modern life in Cartagena.
What to Expect
Fascinating historical immersion
You will discover a city founded by the Carthaginians before our era - but I will tell you about ancient chronicles in a fascinating and understandable way. Cartagena will appear before you as a large city under three empires: you will imagine how it was conquered by the Romans, learn about the power of Byzantium and the Muslim period. We will talk about the daily life of ancient residents in a typical Roman house, about legends and myths, and if you have children with you, I will gladly supplement the tour with interactive elements.
Ancient and modern “brands” of Cartagena
Our journey into the distant past will begin in a 2500-year-old port, where you will also see the first submarine in Spain. Next, we will stroll along the elegant main street and peek into a temple with a statue of the patron of the internet. The bastion ruins will illustrate the story of the great commander Hannibal and the Punic Wars, which led to the fall of Carthage. Of course, we will not miss the Roman amphitheater and talk about archaeological excavations.
Along the way, you will ascend to an observation deck on the city elevator, and also taste the coffee that is brewed only in Cartagena. In conclusion, I will recommend you a delicious fish restaurant away from the tourist crowds, as well as suggest what else to see in Cartagena.
