About this experience
Fantastic landscapes await you, crafted by winds and volcanoes, with a final touch added by man. You will visit the rock city of Urgup, witness water marbling in the Pasabag Valley, explore the 'fairy chimneys' made of tuff, wander through cave labyrinths in Zelve, and admire vibrant carpets and clay products in the town of Avanos.
What to expect
Urgup Fortress-City: We will stroll through the streets of the city, admire the buildings constructed by Greeks before the population exchange in 1924. You will hear about the revered St. John the Russian, who was captured from Peter the Great's army and lived here in the 18th century. At the art gallery, you will observe the art of water marbling and fabric painting in the Ebru technique and can participate in a masterclass if desired.
Three Beauties (Uchisar): The name of this place translates to 'three beauties.' Legend has it that the three massive stone columns are the forever frozen goddesses Hera, Aphrodite, and Athena. You will take pictures with them and marvel at the volcanic landscapes.
Pasabag, or Monk's Valley: One of the most popular and beautiful spots in Cappadocia. Hermits settled in these multi-level 'chimneys' in the 5th century. You will visit the three-headed 'chimney' with a church and cells preserved, getting acquainted with the monastic life.
Open-Air Museum in Zelve: A vast rock complex from the 11-13th centuries. Churches, monastic cells with tunnels and numerous rooms: you will explore this labyrinth and appreciate how human hands complemented nature's creation.
Avanos Town: Here you will discover the works of master potters and carpet weavers. Optionally, we can stroll along the Kizilirmak River, the longest in Turkey, where craftsmen extract clay for their crafts.
