About this experience
On this individual tour, I will introduce you to the Capella Sansevero - a world-famous museum, tomb, and Masonic temple all at once. You will admire sculptural masterpieces of the 18th century and mysterious anatomical machines, the history of which remains unknown. You will also take a stroll through the quiet streets of Naples and get acquainted with its traditions and culture.
What to Expect
Unique Exhibits
Nowadays, the chapel houses a museum. You will see the main exhibit - the unique statue of "Christ Veiled in the Shroud" and learn who and when it was made, as well as the statues of "Chastity" and "Liberation from Charms" dedicated to the mother and father of the chapel's creator - Prince Raimondo de Sangro.
Next, we will descend to the lower crypt - to the anatomical machines that are simply shocking. These are real skeletons with a human arterial venous system. They are considered the most enigmatic exhibits of the museum, as there is still no accurate information on how they were made. I will tell you the legend associated with their appearance.
Open-Air Museum
The chapel is located in the historic Greco-Roman center, in the heart of Naples. This part of the city is called an open-air museum, and I will reveal it to you. Before or after visiting the chapel, we will walk through the cozy streets, you will see ancient churches of different architectural styles - from Gothic to Baroque, stroll through Spaccanapoli, a place where the culture and traditions of Naples are fully represented. Visit Via San Gregorio Armeno with workshops. Optionally, you can purchase souvenirs, gifts, and unique items from local craftsmen.
