What to expect
Naples through the centuries
Naples is a city with an incredible past and a rich cultural heritage, filled with myths, ghosts, legends, and even more amazing real stories that I will definitely share with you. So, the excursion program includes:
- St. Januarius Cathedral - I will tell you about the people who have adorned the magnificent cathedral over the centuries, and the precious relics kept in the Treasury. I will also show you the baptistery where the first Christians were baptized and reveal the secret as to why Neapolitans eagerly await September 19.
- San Giovanni a Carbonara, where the mausoleum of King Ladislaus Durazzo is located, who twice brought the great Rome to its knees. This place is off the tourist paths. Externally modest, the small church will surprise you with grand sculptures, bright frescoes, and graceful majolica.
- Church of San Lorenzo - the only example of true French Gothic in Naples, preserving its appearance from the knightly times. Inside is the tomb of Catherine of Austria, created by the unique medieval sculptor Tino Di Camaino.
- Monastery of San Gregorio Armeno - it's here that the relics of St. Gregory the Armenian were kept for over 500 years. You will learn what the convent was famous for, why the church ceiling is adorned with panels of naked female torsos, and for what reason it's forbidden to take photos within the monastery walls.
- Church of Santa Chiara - I will tell the tragic history of the monastery and the kings who found their final refuge within these walls, and answer the question why among the distinguished persons rests an ordinary carbineer.
- Church of Santa Maria La Nova - you will see the sensation of recent years - Vlad III Dracula's tomb. You will also hear an amazing story about how solving one mystery led to the emergence of a chain of riddles.
