About this experience
This family journey will appeal to both children and adults visiting Cyprus. In the camel park, you will meet charismatic animals, ride them, and swim in the pool. Then visit the Hala Sultan Tekke Mosque on the shore of the unique salt lake, and in the village of Kiti, discover a 6th-century mosaic.
What to expect
Children's favorites: camels, donkeys, and ponies
First, we will head to the only camel park in Cyprus. Here, kids can get up close with the 'Ships of the Desert,' feed them treats, and even ride them. Then they will interact with other animals in the park: Cypriot donkeys, deer, and ponies. They can also choose to swim in the pool or find another fun activity as there are plenty in the park!
Adults' highlights: lakes, mosque, and mosaic
Next, we will visit other notable spots on the island. The program includes:
- Salt lakes - a natural wonder of Cyprus. In the cold seasons, they fill with water, and in summer, they turn into a salt desert. You will learn how salt was extracted here during the Ottoman era and, if lucky, spot delicate flamingos.
- Hala Sultan Tekke Mosque - the fourth holiest shrine for Muslims after Mecca, Medina, and the mosque in Jerusalem. Here, you will see the sarcophagus containing the aunt of the Prophet Muhammad, Um Haram. You can also admire the reflection of the mosque in the water of the salt lake.
- 6th-century mosaic, which you will explore in the Church of the Virgin of Angeloktisti, encompassing both Catholic and Orthodox boundaries.
