About this experience
In the raucous twenties of the last century, the Kontorhofe district of office buildings appeared in Hamburg, next to it - Speicherstadt, a unique "warehouse city". You will stroll through the brick canyons of this architectural ensemble, feel the atmosphere of technical progress, and in the futuristic district of HafenCity, you will compare how the pursuit of the new is embodied in our days.
What to Expect
UNESCO never advises badly!
The walk will start with an inspection of the Messberghof building: you will learn about its scary and funny pages of history, and inside you will admire the spiral staircase resembling a nautilus shell. Next, we will walk around Chilehaus from all sides to understand why it became a symbol of world expressionism. And the Sprinkenhof will impress you not only with its gigantic dimensions, but also with its unusual gilded decor; here hides the most beautiful staircase in this quarter.
Romance of Brick Warehouses
Then we will head to Speicherstadt: to inspect the fancy neo-Gothic buildings that used to be the most modern warehouses in the world. You will walk on bridges, breathe port air, look into windows, and decipher the mysteries of fairy-tale castles. And at the same time, you will learn how Hamburg became one of the main coffee ports in the world, what spices are still stored behind the brick walls, and what the Speicherstadt and the tales of "One Thousand and One Nights" have in common.
The walk will end in the most modern district of Hamburg - HafenCity. We will look at ultra-modern buildings and discuss the future of this incredible space.
