Borjomi and Rabati - a walk in the Middle Ages
About this experience
In the first half of the XIX century, in Meskheti, at the most important strategic crossroads, two superpowers of that era - the Ottoman and Russian Empires - clashed. The Turks were expelled from Georgian lands, and the historical region of Samtskhe - after almost 250 years of Turkish pashalik rule - returned to Georgia. You will travel back to the era of valor and revival, to medieval historical landmarks, and see the enchanting Borjomi Gorge.
What to expect
The town of Borjomi and the city park with the world-famous spring. You will learn the history of the legendary mineral water, which has gone from a "salty creek" near General Paskevich's army camp to 400 million bottles of exports per year. We will talk about the healing properties of the famous water, which is associated with health and vitality.
Scenic and mysterious 'Green Monastery' IX c. - one of the oldest in our country. The atmosphere of this holy place is mesmerizing: despite medieval persecutions of Christians in these lands and attempts to eradicate the faith, the monastery stood firm, preserving its sanctity and grace. I will tell you the amazing legend of the 'Red Stones', and the visit to the monastery and its history will leave a strong impression.
The legendary fortress of Akhaltsikhe - a crucial transit point between Christian and Muslim worlds. You will get acquainted with one of the most expressive and colorful monuments of Georgia, literally absorbing the energy of both cultures.

My dad walks well but slowly with a cane, so Kostya adjusted the route for us and at our pace. The day flew by unnoticed in conversations, as we were interested in everything - both history and...
