About this experience
Visiting the National Archaeological Museum in Naples is not just a journey into the past, it is a new understanding of the history of Humanity as a whole.
There are many wonders here. Starting from the fact that the collection began to form in the distant 16th century, when a very knowledgeable Pope from the Farnese family sat on the throne in the Vatican, who was able to appreciate the importance of discoveries on the Roman Forum and laid the foundation for the general fascination with antiquity. It is also miraculous that the artifacts discovered during excavations of cities that disappeared as a result of a natural disaster in the 1st century AD did not disappear into the private collections of European aristocrats in the 18th century, although there was no understanding of what constitutes real historical value. Great effort was put into creating this unique exhibition by scientists.
Program
- We will start our journey through the museum by acquainting ourselves with the collection of marbles from the Ancient Roman era, evaluating the personal characteristics of the people who shaped the empire through sculptural portraits.
- We will then visit halls where originals of extraordinarily high-quality mosaics discovered during excavations are presented.
- We will visit the famous Secret Cabinet, rich in exhibits that tell about the eroticism of ancient society.
- An exquisite collection of frescoes that allows a deeper understanding of life in that era and, of course, an exhibition of everyday objects complements the impression of the life of people in the 1st century AD.
