About this experience
I invite you to an exciting journey through the Antalya Archaeological Museum! Let's travel back to primitive times and imagine ourselves as Neanderthals hunting fierce boars and mammoths. We will also explore cities buried under several layers of earth. I will help you see that ancient history is far from boring. It allows us to look at the past and present in a new light.
What to Expect
Mysterious Worlds: Roman Empire, Ancient Greece, and Byzantium
You will uncover the mysteries of the great Roman Empire and recall the myths of Ancient Greece. Appreciate statues of people from the 2nd century AD and learn about their way of life. You will also see depictions of gods they worshipped and sacrifices made in their name. Additionally, we will visit the Byzantine Hall telling the story of Saint Nicholas and his preaching. If desired, you can pay homage to his relics, which were returned to Turkey with great effort.
People and Epochs
I will show you magnificent ancient sarcophagi and help 'read' through sculptural images the stories of their owners' earthly lives. I will share legends about King Midas and the tradition of the famous Phrygian brooch. Discover how people were buried in ancient times and learn about rituals that have survived to this day. Through museum exhibits, you will feel the continuity of epochs in other aspects of life: daily routines, house structures, and the celebration of important events.
