About this experience
You will visit one of the most interesting quarters of the Italian capital, filled with wonderful temples, majestic squares, ancient Roman structures, and Christian artifacts. I will tell you the legends of Ripa and help you understand its character.
What to Expect
Capitoline Hill and Santa Maria in Aracoeli Church
We will start the walk at the foot of Capitoline Hill, where you will see fragments of the ancient walls of the ancient Roman archive 'tabularia.' You will visit Campidoglio Square, designed by Michelangelo, and admire the sculptural ensemble decorating it. Next, you will visit the Santa Maria in Aracoeli Church and see the sculpture of the infant Jesus carved from the olive tree of Gethsemane. I will reveal the historical mysteries and legends that fill the church and the staircase leading to it.
Arch of Janus and Roman 'insula'
I will show you a multi-story 'insula,' preserved from ancient times. I will tell you why it is called that way and how the Romans lived in it. Next, we will head to the Cattle Forum - an ancient market where livestock was sold. You will also see the location of the world's first dairy kitchen, the temples of Portunus and Hercules, the Marcellus Theater, and the arch of the two-faced god Janus with four facades.
Three Beautiful Churches Trio
We will visit three fascinating churches: San Nicola in Carcere, where Saint Peter was held before his execution; San Giorgio in Velabro, dedicated to St. George the Victorious, and Santa Maria in Cosmedin, where you will see the skull of Saint Valentine and the 5th-century mosaic icon 'The Meeting.' Additionally, I will show you the location of ancient money changers' work and explain why there are always many people on the Bocca della Verita square trying to put their hand in the hole of the ancient sewer.
Orange Garden and Rome Panorama from Above
You will find yourself on the border of the Aventine and Palatine hills, overlooking the Great Circus and heading towards the municipal rose garden and the Basilica of Santa Sabina - I will reveal the secret of why this ancient church is particularly popular with newlyweds. The walk will end in the Parco Savello orange garden, where you will have an amazing view of the city.
