About this experience
You will walk through the most interesting districts of Rome, still not crowded with tourists, and feel the true character of the city. I will show you the place where, according to legend, the basket with Romulus and Remus landed, take you through the cozy streets of Trastevere, and reveal the secrets of ancient temples, theaters, and squares.
What to Expect
Ancient Rome
We will start the tour at Piazza Venezia, from where we will head to the most picturesque quarters of the Italian capital. You will see the ancient Arch of Janus and learn what it symbolizes. Walk among the ruins of the Temple of Mater Matuta and see the Legionnaires' Triumphal Arch. You will peek into the 'Mouth of Truth', famous from the movie 'Roman Holiday', and learn the history of the charming Turtle Fountain. I will also show you the temple dedicated to Hercules and tell you the legend associated with it.
Jewish Quarter and Tiber Island
We will stroll through the Jewish Quarter, where I will reveal the history of the Jewish people in Rome. You will admire the synagogue and the 'grandfather' of the Colosseum - the ancient Theatre of Marcellus. Then we will cross one of the oldest bridges to Tiber Island. I will tell you how a hospital ended up here and why it is called: 'Do good, people!'. You will also hear the legend of the temple dedicated to the god Asclepius.
Exploring Cozy Trastevere
You will explore one of the most picturesque districts of Rome - the medieval Trastevere. I will show you the house, hospital, and workplace of Saint Francesca. You will enter the church of Saint Cecilia, located on ancient ruins, and learn why she is the patroness of musicians. Next, you will visit the heart of the district - the church of Santa Maria in Trastevere - and see mosaics dedicated to the Virgin Mary. You will also see the house where Raphael's beloved lived. The tour will end on a 'sweet' note - you will visit a historic chocolate shop in Rome and understand why it is so famous.
