About this experience
During the journey, you will discover one of the most interesting archaeological sites in the province. I will introduce you to the Roman and Byzantine structures of Phaselis. I will tell you about the era of its heyday, when it was famous for its beauty and wealth. You will admire the bay where the ancient Lycian city is located. And then we will take a funicular to the top of the mountain depicted in the poem 'Iliad'.
What to expect
Ancient Phaselis
The city was founded in the 7th century BCE at the foot of Mount Tahtali, or Olympus, described by Homer in the 'Iliad'. You will learn about the history of Phaselis and explore the ruins of Roman and Byzantine monuments: a fortress from the 3rd century, an aqueduct, ancient harbors, baths and monuments, a theater, and market squares. And on the slope behind the northern harbor, you will see a necropolis.
If you wish, we will make a stop for swimming in the Lazer Bay, where there is a sandy beach with all amenities (changing rooms, toilets, and showers).
Mount Tahtali
The mountain is 2365 meters above sea level, being the most prominent peak in the Turkish Mediterranean. We will ascend by cable car — one of the longest in the world. From the observation deck, you will overlook the surroundings and enjoy a breathtaking view of the Antalya coast.
