About this experience
I invite you to a one-day journey to places praised by Homer many centuries ago. First, we will enjoy a drive along fragrant olive groves and reach the ruins of the ancient city of Olympos. Then we will find ourselves on one of the most beautiful beaches in Turkey, where we can swim freely (possibly in the company of cute fish). And in conclusion, we will climb the mystical Mount Yanartash and get acquainted with the legend of the evil Chimera.
What to expect
We will visit one of the cities of your choice.
Ancient city of Olympos: mysteries of antiquity
We leave the city and head to the first stop on our route: the city of Olympos. It is said that the settlement was founded by pirates - they were attracted by secluded bays scattered along the sea shore. Moreover, the coastline itself is surrounded by impregnable cliffs with numerous caves - there is where to hide.
And we will enjoy the sea views and, walking along the ruins of ancient houses and peeking into the real Roman baths and necropolis, we will imagine how life boiled here many centuries ago.
Olympos Beach
Of course, we cannot miss one of the local beaches. The place we will visit is liked by sea turtles - they choose it for nesting. In the warm season, you can swim with a mask and fins in the company of curious fish.
Ancient Phaselis: history and nature
An alternative start of our trip is Phaselis, an ancient city founded in the 7th century BC by colonists from the island of Rhodes. You will explore the ruins of trade squares, appreciate the ancient amphitheater, find the gymnasium and Roman baths. In addition, you will admire the pine forest, swim at the local beach with clean and transparent water, and observe flocks of tiny fish at the shore. And we will tell you about the ups and downs of Phaselis and the famous personalities who shaped its history.
Mythical fires of Mount Yanartash
And the quintessence of our journey - the mystical Mount Yanartash. This is one of the rare places in the world where tongues of flame erupt from the ground over the centuries. Ancient people did not know the reason for this phenomenon, so they attributed mythical properties to the fires. It was believed that the evil Chimera dwells here. Shall we check?
