About this experience
We will travel from Kemer to the small town of Demre, where many interesting events have taken place over the centuries. This was the most important center of Lycia - Myra, where St. Nicholas the Wonderworker lived and preached. You will visit the church dedicated to him, see the grand amphitheater, and unravel the secrets of the rock-hewn tombs.
What to expect
Journey into antiquity
You will walk through the ruins of the ancient city of Myra, admire the magnificent rock tombs, and the Greco-Roman theater with a seating capacity of 10,000. I will decipher the principles of construction of Lycian tombs and reveal who was depicted on the coins minted here. I will also help you immerse yourself in the rich history of the city: from its foundation, flourishing to decline.
History of Nicholas of Myra
The Church of St. Nicholas is a major attraction in the vicinity of Myra. You will admire the ancient frescoes and inspect the sarcophagus where the remains of the saint were kept until the 11th century. I will decipher the floor ornament and playing card suits on the walls of the church. I will show the fresco "The Last Supper" and help you find the image of Judas Iscariot. Moreover, I will share stories and legends about the life of St. Nicholas of Myra.
