What to Expect
Demre
We will take you to the ancient city of Demre, a pilgrimage site for Orthodox Christians. This is the birthplace and residence of the revered Saint Nicholas. Inside the Church of St. Nicholas, ancient wall frescoes and a sarcophagus are preserved, where the saint's relics were believed to be kept. You can purchase blessed icons with his image and place them on the sarcophagus. Our guide will narrate how St. Nicholas became the bishop of the city and how Italian merchants smuggled his relics.
Myra
This is the oldest city of Lycian culture. The tombs and sarcophagi of this sunken city rise above the water and resemble overturned boats. You will explore the ancient theater, study the rock-cut tombs, and unveil the mystery of Lycian burials.
