Amsterdam yesterday and today
I will tell you how Amsterdam has passed a glorious and turbulent historical path over seven and a half centuries: from a small village of fishermen, originated in the XIII century at the mouth of the river Amstel, to the world's largest trading port. You will learn where incredible wealth was imported into the city in the XVII century, how its further history developed, and at what moment Amsterdam acquired the fame of the freest European capital with an atmosphere of eternal celebration. During the walk, you will see all the iconic sights: Dam Square with the famous Royal Palace, the Old Church, the monument to the oldest profession in the Red Light District, the floating flower market, and the ancient market square Nieuwmarkt with the Weighing House, where people were once executed.
Tasting local delicacies and valuable recommendations
I will show you the oldest coffee shop near the narrowest street in Amsterdam, luxurious mansions of wealthy residents, and the former monastery island with 'hidden' churches. You will stroll through Chinatown with restaurants and brown cafes, and the Jewish district where Rembrandt lived and worked. You will visit the Begijn courtyard, where the oldest building in Amsterdam is located, the Spui square, and the Flea market. You will also admire the River Amstel with the city's famous dancing houses. At the end, if desired, you will taste over 30 types of cheese with mustard, sweet Dutch waffles, 'catch the herring by the tail' and taste delicious eel.
