About this experience
This historical district is the heart of the capital. Here you can still find images of the gradually disappearing old Belgrade. Dorcol is ambiguous and multilayered. Local residents proudly call themselves dorcolts and owners of a special cultural code - from dorcol taverns to dorcol humor. We will walk with you through the city streets, talk about all this and much more.
What to expect
The Heritage of Upper and Lower Dorcol
On the tour, I will introduce you to:
- the only mosque in Belgrade and other buildings from the Ottoman period,
- some preserved buildings of the Jewish community,
- the rich houses of the city's noble inhabitants,
- luxurious shops on Kralja Petra and Gospodar Jovanova, which originated from small shops,
- the early representatives of Serbian industrial architecture - the Bailoni brewery and the Shonda chocolate factory.
Dorcol Stories
I will tell you about the connection between Dorcol and the Croatian Dubrovnik, the bustling markets of Bitpazar and Zerek, the superstitions of the Danube fishermen, and also about the caravanserai of Mehmed-pasha Sokolovic and the palace of Prince Eugène of Savoy (by the way, was there a palace?).
