About this experience
We have prepared for you a rich route following the traces of Byzantine and Ottoman heritage. The guide will tell you about the Vlaherna district, a former suburb of Istanbul that became the main Christian center of the city under the Ottoman rulers.
What to expect
Blue Mosque
You will see the always crowded mosque that gave its name to the historical district of Istanbul. Let's talk about Sultan Ahmed I, who wanted to leave a mark in history and build a unique temple. He succeeded - the only mosque with 6 minarets in the Ottoman Empire appeared. From top to bottom, it is decorated with 20,000 İznik tiles, for which it received the name "Blue Mosque".
Grand Bazaar
We will walk through one of the largest covered markets in the world with 4000 shops, 500 stalls, and 21 gates. We will recall the place this market occupied in the lives of the people of Istanbul starting from the 15th century when Mehmed the Conqueror began its construction.
Suleymaniye Mosque and Church of St. Stephen
You will admire the magnificent 16th-century mosque. After that, you will visit the Orthodox church dedicated to Saint Stephen the First Martyr and belonging to the Bulgarian community of Istanbul. This is one of the few churches in the world entirely made of cast iron.
Church of St. Mary of the Blachernae. You will visit the famous sanctuary of Eastern Christianity, located at the Golden Horn bay. It was in this church that an event occurred that became the basis of one of the most beloved holidays among the people - the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos. The guide will provide more details during the excursion.
