About this experience
Gallipoli is an amazing town in Salento, so if you are nearby, don't miss it! The entrance to the medieval part is still guarded by the 13th-century Anjou Castle, and in the pinacoteca of the Cathedral and the church of Della Purità, you can find incredible paintings from the 17th century. But Gallipoli is not only historical noble mansions and magnificent churches of different brotherhoods and confessions. Here you will see the real Italian life in action!
What to expect
Our program includes a fish market, charming restaurants with breathtaking views, shops with amazing goods, beach nightclubs until the morning, and the purest emerald sea. And along the way, I will reveal Salento secrets to you. You will find out who hides under the hoods during religious processions before Easter; why Gallipoli lamp oil was considered one of the best in the world, and what made the famous Italian writer Gabriele D'Annunzio visit one of the island's churches at night.
At the fish market, you will try the freshest seafood, and in the restaurants - seppia alla gallipolina (octopus baked in the oven); zuppa alla gallipolina (soup made from mollusks and fresh fish); polipo alla pignata (octopus stew).
After exploring the city, we will visit a family winery, where we will learn about the wine production process and taste three local authentic varieties with traditional regional snacks and breadsticks.
