About this experience
You will dive into one of the most beautiful periods of French history – from 1661 until the Revolution of 1789 – and hear stories about the court life under the last kings of France, the Louis (XIV, XV, XVI), learn about their attachments, secrets, passions, and temperaments.
Program
Our tour will start with the Royal Chapel, where we will skip the line (which will surely impress you, as Versailles is the most popular palace not only in France but in all of Europe, and the lines here often reach a three-hour waiting interval). You will discover why Louis XIV sought to make France the center of the world, was devout, and attached great importance to Christian symbols, why Louis XV was called the 'black sun,' and why Louis XVI's life and his family's ended so tragically?
Next, we will move to the royal apartments, where you will learn how the kings lived, how they spent their free time, what games they played, what they ate, what illnesses they had, and what they died from. You will hear incredible family secrets of the Bourbons, intertwined with the wall decorations specially made by the talented artist Le Brun upon royal request.
Afterwards, you will be amazed by the visit to the Hall of Mirrors, where all the thoughts, desires, and ambitions of Louis XIV merged. You will visit the rooms of the king and the Queen's apartments. You will learn why all the kings' wives were unhappy and be astonished by the decoration of the last Queen Marie Antoinette's bedroom.
The tour will end in the Versailles Park, considered one of France's wonders. When Louis XIV decided to build the Versailles Park, he could not have imagined the difficulties that would arise. The terrain relief and riverbeds had to be changed, but everything was subject to the king's will! Today, we can only admire this beauty and the power of water that permeates every inch of the park.
