About this experience
Trieste is an architectural poem, broken down into a polyphony. Baroque, neoclassical, liberty: everything is mixed in the richest salon city of the 18-19 centuries. During the excursion, we will explore the diversity of styles presented, talk about the history and modern life of this amazing city.
What to expect
Cultural Fusion
We will see the main attractions of the center: immerse ourselves in the atmosphere of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in Piazza Unità d'Italia and travel back to the Roman era by climbing the San Giusto hill. We will enter the Old Town through the gates of the 1st century AD and walk through the aristocratic district of Borgo Teresiano, surrounding the Grand Canal, built during the reign of Maria Theresa of Austria. You will see the Stock Exchange Square, the building of the Giuseppe Verdi Theater - an almost exact copy of La Scala in Milan, the Roman basilica, and the amphitheater. We will walk along the fortress walls and discuss the history, architecture, education, and development of the city, its economic prosperity, religious denominations, the Jewish ghetto, culture, and gastronomic traditions.
Organizational Details
- It is not very easy to climb the hill on foot, so if you have your own transport, we can meet you there. In case of booking the excursion, I will provide detailed instructions on how to get there.
- If you are without a car and with children, there will be plenty to see on the plain. For children, I conduct mini-quizzes during the excursion. And let me warn you right away, whoever answers the questions very well will have to receive a prize... Sounds threatening? Well, that's good. After all, we are in a free city!
