About this experience
We will stroll through the alleys of the Old Town and reveal its secrets. Is this place Venetian, Turkish, or Austrian? Why was a fortress built on an inaccessible cliff? Which houses hold the memory of the earthquake? You will visit panoramic platforms with magnificent views of the Bay of Kotor and walk through cozy streets-stairs in search of answers to these questions.
What to expect
Rudolf Karuzich Monument - the city eccentric and chimney sweep. I will tell you how Karuzich became the hero of urban anecdotes and why a monument was erected to a man who collaborated with fascists.
Austrian Grave and Stone from the Austrian Barracks - traces of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the city park. Nearby - a catholic church and an old Ottoman house. You will learn how the histories of different empires intertwined in Herceg Novi.
Post Office Building and City Administration. You will find out how Yugoslav modernism is similar to Soviet and how architects protected the building from the sun.
House-Museum of writer Ivo Andric. I will tell you about the famous novel written by the only Yugoslav Nobel laureate. And also - how many years Andric lived in Herceg Novi and why he left it forever.
