About this experience
Toropets is the oldest town in the Tver region and a gem of the region, securely hidden among the web of roads of our country. On its ancient streets, you will see the place where Alexander Nevsky was crowned. You will hear the legends of the Red Island and discover the peculiarities of Toropets Baroque. You will also immerse yourself in the merchant life of the 18th century and learn about the prominent figures associated with the 'city of admirals'.
What to expect
A glimpse into the distant past
On the tour, you will walk the path from the founding of the town to the present day. We will climb the Small Hillfort, which offers a picturesque view of Lake Solomeno. This is where the city's history begins, as the trade route 'from the Varangians to the Greeks' passed through here. You will also visit the place of the marriage of Alexander Nevsky and the Polotsk princess, who gave the Toropets the Korsun Icon of the Mother of God.
Journey to the Red Island
We will travel to medieval Toropets, to the times when the city was protected by Kremlin walls. You will discover the unique architectural style - Toropets flat baroque. You will also hear the legends of the island, which will reveal new and unexpected sides of the city.
Merchant Toropets
On a walk through the central part of the city, you will immerse yourself in the merchant life and everyday life of the 18th century. I will tell you about key events in the city's trade history and its treasures. You will learn why Toropets is called the 'city of admirals' and get acquainted with the lives of great people: Patriarch Tikhon, P.I. Rikord, A.N. Kuropatkin, M.P. Mussorgsky.
