About this experience
Azerbaijan, often called the Land of Fire, is a country historically located at the crossroads of East and West. And its heart is the Old Town of Baku. You will discover its rich history and immerse yourself in its authentic atmosphere. You will stroll through the stone streets with souvenir stalls, be charmed by the courtyards of Baku, learn about the ancient state in the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, admire the city panorama from the legendary Maiden Tower, and visit two museums.
What to Expect
Kaleidoscope of the Old Town
Icheri Sheher, which translates literally as 'inner city,' is a very small area. But in terms of historical significance and atmosphere, it cannot be compared to any other in Baku. Wandering through the labyrinth of streets (think 'Diamond Arm'!), you will learn about the principles of the ancient city's layout and appreciate them with your own eyes. You will visit Azerbaijani courtyards, where locals play backgammon and dominoes. You will admire the famous carpets and Baku doors, and also visit a traditional cafe, where you will try freshly baked bread and learn about the famous people who have visited here.
Historical Heritage at the Crossroads of Civilizations
The Old Town will reveal all its beauty and history: located at the crossroads of Western and Eastern civilizations, this place has absorbed the best of both worlds. You will walk along ancient fortress walls and learn about their structure, encounter magnificent caravanserais, stroll through Sabir Park, and be able to climb the Maiden Tower — a symbol of the city, surrounded by many legends.
Palace and Museums
To get closer to the rich history of the city, you will visit the Palace of the Shirvanshahs. You will explore the mosque, the tombs of rulers, baths, and other buildings, while I tell you about the historical events that took place here and the momentous decisions that were made here. Additionally, the program includes a unique Museum of miniature books, listed in the Guinness World Records, and the house-museum of the artist Tahir Salahov.
