About this experience
Why is it essential to visit Florence's main museum? After the tour, you will receive a comprehensive answer to this question. In the ancient palace on the banks of the Arno, you will explore works by Giotto, Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Cimabue, Rubens, Michelangelo, and other authors. You will understand their role in the history of art and learn the main themes of painting and sculpture from the 13th to 17th centuries.
What to Expect
Understand the Heritage of the Uffizi
From the very beginning at Florence's main museum, you will immerse yourself in the history of painting, sculpture, and fashion through the gallery's exhibits. I will help you understand their significance not only for Italian but for world art. The tour will follow the principle on which the exhibition is based - 'chronology and schools'. First, you will learn about the peculiarities of religious painting in the 13th century, logically transition to secular themes of the Renaissance, and finally study paintings from the 17th century. You will learn about styles from Gothic to Baroque, distinguish between Greek sculptures and Roman ones, and 'read' the plots of paintings. We will also discuss how the Tuscan lords of the Medici dynasty assembled the rich Uffizi collection.
Answers to all 'whys' about masterpieces
Giotto's, Cimabue's, and Filippo Lippi's 'Madonnas'; Michelangelo's 'Holy Family'; Botticelli's 'Spring' and 'The Birth of Venus'; sculptures like Doryphoros, Cleomenes, and the Venus of Knidos: these and many other works await you on my tour. I will explain why Leonardo called his innovation 'aerial perspective', why Michelangelo painted so few pictures, why Botticelli was forgotten for 400 years, and why Caravaggio's 'Bacchus' was placed among still lifes. You will compare self-portraits of Rembrandt and Rubens, learn how the latter managed to leave almost 3000 works behind, and why Andrea del Sarto is called the painter without mistakes. Separate topics will be the fashion trends in clothing and hairstyles from the 13th to the 17th centuries, which will also be discussed by the Uffizi masterpieces.
