About this experience
This route intertwines the stories and legends of Asian Istanbul, the traditions of different cultures, and the panoramas of the Bosphorus. We will blend in with the city's rhythm: like the locals, we will take a ride on the 'sea tram' several times, stroll through less explored areas, marvel at architectural contrasts, and admire magnificent palaces.
What to expect
Many travelers limit themselves to the European part of Istanbul. But the soul of the city is hidden not on its tourist streets. To immerse yourself in the local way of life in all its diversity, I have planned a route through the Asian part of Istanbul. We will cruise the Bosphorus, make stops to visit Ottoman palaces and landmarks. And friendly conversations and advice will be pleasant and useful bonuses.
Excursion timing
- 10:00 - meet on the Eminonu waterfront near the pier.
- 10:05 - ferry departure. While crossing the strait, we will enjoy the water panoramas and feed the seagulls.
- 11:00 - we disembark in the area of Uskudar, one of the oldest in Istanbul. Here we will admire the Maiden's Tower, visit ancient mosques, and see how a puppet master portrayed Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and Hurrem Sultan.
- 12:00 - Beylerbeyi Palace, the summer residence of the sultans. We will visit this wonderful architectural monument and discuss its history and mysteries.
- 13:00 - lunch at one of the seaside restaurants
- 14:00 - board the ferry again and head to Anadolu Hisari Castle. If desired, we can climb to its highest tower and enjoy views of the Bosphorus.
- 15:00 - explore Kucuksu, a little-known palace to tourists. This example of Ottoman architecture served as the set for a part of the James Bond movie, 'The World Is Not Enough.' After the restoration in 1983, the palace was opened as a museum. All interior items here are authentic and date back to the 19th century.
- 16:00 - return to the European part. I will guide you on how to get to the city center and accompany you throughout the route if needed.
