About this experience
Orthodoxy and Tallinn - this theme will seem less unexpected to you once you find out how this faith came to the territory of Estonia, when the first Orthodox churches appeared here and how complex was the path of this branch of Christianity in the country: from establishment to destruction and restoration. I will tell you about the famous personalities who contributed to the history of Orthodoxy in Estonia and guide you to the most significant temples.
What to expect
Emergence of Orthodoxy in Tallinn
I will tell you why the arrival of Orthodoxy in Estonian lands is traditionally associated with the ancient trading yard of merchants, with the deeds of some princes - rulers of the Russian state - and emperors from the Romanov dynasty. You will learn when the first Orthodox iconostasis appeared in Tallinn, what happened to one of the metropolitans of the Nicholas Church, and how events such as the railway disaster of the imperial train and numerous European wars like Livonian, Northern, and the Great Patriotic War affected the establishment of the religion.
Exploring Orthodox Architecture
You will visit the main Orthodox churches in Tallinn and, if it does not interfere with the parishioners, enter each one and study their decoration. The miniature chapels at the Russian and Green markets, completely unlike monumental Christian architecture, will make a special impression on you. You will see the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, the Church of St. Michael, and the Cathedral of Alexander Nevsky. All the mentioned shrines are somehow interconnected, so in my story, one story will flow into another, uniting a whole series of famous names and historical events.
