About this experience
Behind the turquoise waves and sandy beaches of Side lies a centuries-old history - I invite you to discover it! We will explore the ancient city on foot: ruins of the grand amphitheater and fortress, exhibits of the Archaeological Museum, and colorful streets. And then we will visit the picturesque Manavgat waterfall. You will hear the legends of Side, learn about its life, and Turkish culture.
What to Expect
Step into ancient Side
Most of the tour will be dedicated to the atmospheric ancient city, where impressive ruins of one of the Greek colonies on the Anatolian coast are preserved. I will guide you through quiet streets, introduce you to the history of the city walls, which were once a fortress, and show you the symbols of Side:
- Amphitheater, built in the 2nd century BC: you will imagine the gladiator battles and performances that took place here, understand the structure of the amphitheater, trace its path through the centuries, and learn about the arena's revival today.
- Archaeological Museum, which houses many artifacts of ancient art: sculptures, sarcophagi, decorations, coins. Next to the museum, you will also admire the arched gates.
- Ruins of the Byzantine hospital. The building's first two floors and inner chambers are well preserved: exploring them is like wandering through mysterious labyrinths.
- Side Fountain - an elegant structure dedicated to water nymphs.
When and how was Side founded, what name did the city bear in the past? What did the first citizens do and live on? And what does Side breathe today and what traditions does it preserve? Along the way, you will hear the answers to these and other curious questions about the Mediterranean resort.
Cool off at the Manavgat Waterfall
To conclude the tour, I will take you to the picturesque cascade that formed after the construction of a reservoir. You will have time to enjoy the calming sound of the water, have a cup of Turkish coffee, and take photos with parrots. After visiting the waterfall, we will stop for lunch at a delicious restaurant by the Melas River.
