Antique city of Side, Manavgat waterfall and ornaments of the Kuliyeh mosque
About this experience
Side is not just beautiful beaches: the old part of the city is also worth your attention! I will take you through the streets of Cleopatra's time, reveal the pirate pages of the region, explain how the Agora market square is organized. Afterwards, we will visit the waterfall on the river that supplies water to the entire Side, and I will tell you about Turkish traditions at the walls of the Kuliyeh mosque.
What to expect
Ancient city monuments
A walk through the old streets of Side is not just an opportunity to see the Greco-Roman ruins: I will help you feel the breath of time, see the trace of history in its stones. Legend has it that this was where Mark Antony and Cleopatra met - we will remember this powerful couple, and also talk about the pirates who captured the city and turned it into a naval shipyard and a center of slave trade. You will visit the Agora market square, in the ancient theater you will see how tragedies were performed in those times, and admire the elegance of the columns of the Temple of Apollo.
Waterfall from a banknote
Next, we will head to the Manavgat waterfall, the widest in the region. It was even featured on a five lira Turkish banknote! We will rest in the shade and coolness and talk about the Manavgat river - the Turkish Nile, thanks to which crops thrive in the entire province, and residents are always supplied with drinking water.
Patterns of the Manavgat mosque
The final point of our route is the unusual modern Kuliyeh mosque, the largest on the coast. Its bright ornaments impress with their elegance: while you examine the ornamentation of the mosque, I will talk about the architecture of religious buildings in Turkey and the features of worship.
