About this experience
A cozy land with fragrant gardens of orange trees and vineyards - Bagheria was no accident chosen by the aristocracy for relaxation in luxurious villas. I will reveal the veil of mystery from the most enigmatic estate in the city, shrouded in a mystical past, and lead to a toy museum. Extraordinary impressions and plenty of questions will definitely remain after our walk.
What to expect
A few words about the upper class life
On the way to Bagheria, we will have an hour to discuss the most curious and hidden facts about the aristocracy of the past and present: how they make a living, how they spend their dolce vita - and is it really dolce at all, what happens at the balls and what kind of leisure the bohemians choose. The quirks of marquises and princes will amaze and make your imagination work hard.
Villa of the Mad Prince
Behind the tall sprawling palm trees and orange trees lies a mysterious building. Goethe called it the 'mad villa', and Dumas said he had never seen a more whimsical structure. What secrets do the walls of the house hide, and why are there so many ominous monster sculptures here? I will reveal a part of the past of Villa Palagonia, and the rest will only be left to guess.
Every child's dream
Visit the museum… of toys! Here are more than 1800 different specimens collected - dolls, cars, rocking horses, trains, and dollhouses. From simple ones that peasant children played with, to unique mechanical and porcelain ones for the spoiled children of aristocrats. I will tell you the amazing life story of the museum collector Pietro Piraino, and then we will examine the rich collection of toys.
