About this experience
Legends about the Seville Cathedral were composed even during its construction. I will explain why its creators were considered madmen, and help you see the magnificent structure through the eyes of medieval Sevillians. You will understand how the minaret was transformed into the Giralda, get acquainted with the 'Golden Age' of Spanish painting, and see the key to Seville inside the cathedral. And, of course, I will reveal the secret of the crocodile living in the church and tell you how it ended up in Andalusia during Alfonso X's reign.
What to Expect
Architecture and Moorish history of the church
The walk will start at the square in front of the cathedral. Here you will see the temple in all its grandeur, complementing the city's Arab heritage. You will understand how the minaret was transformed into the Giralda and whether it is true that they used gold brought by Christopher Columbus from America for its adornment. In the inner courtyard, you will relax among orange trees and admire the unique architecture of the building. And I will tell you about the foundation of the cathedral, its Moorish past, and help you understand what it meant for the history of Seville and all of Andalusia.
Seville's miracle and the Golden Age of Spanish painting
Once inside the cathedral, you will discover its rich treasure trove: the 'Golden Age' of Spanish painting in the works of Murillo, the largest altar in the world, a pearl-encrusted crown, and the symbolic key to the city. You will witness one of Seville's miracles when the interior of the building is painted with colorful rays streaming through the stained glass windows. And you will also hear the story of the crocodile hovering under the cathedral's ceiling and uncover how it is connected to Alfonso X's daughter.
