What to Expect
Palace of Prosperous Virtue and Radiant Happiness
The majestic Changdeok Palace is one of Korea's architectural gems. Here, you will get a vivid insight into the splendor of the monarchs' era. Coronations, celebrations, important receptions - for almost five centuries these events took place in the Palace of Prosperous Virtue. During the tour, you will learn about the peculiarities of the residence's construction and discover the most prominent facts associated with it. You will also glimpse at the outside of Gyeongbok Palace - the main royal residence of the Joseon dynasty that ruled from the 15th to the 19th century - and delve into its rich history. In addition, you will see Jongmyo Shrine designed for conducting rituals in memory of the royal family.
Emperor's Sanctuary
In Huwon, the "Secret Garden of natural beauty," you will follow five routes to embrace all the beauty and charm of the place intended for the emperor's contemplation and leisurely walks. You will see pavilions, gazebos, ponds, groves, bamboo thickets, autumn foliage trees, and pine crowns. Thanks to the magnificent layout and landscaping, the garden was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. I will talk about the philosophy embedded in the idea of creating a special territory - you will learn why, besides elegant structures, simple peasant houses were placed in the garden.
Residences of the Aristocracy, Traditional Village, and Craftsman District
Strolling through the souvenir district of Insadong, you will see how the former craftsman, bookstore, and antique shop district looks like now and learn what was happening in this quarter before. Near the statue of Emperor Sejong, we will discuss inventions and Korean writing. Also, the program includes a visit to the underground Sejong Memorial Museum and the aristocratic homes of Bukchon Hanok Village. In the traditional village of Namsangol, you will examine the recreated settlement of Korean-style "hanok" houses, where you can participate in various cultural activities.
To conclude the tour, a visit to N Seoul Tower on Namsan is possible, offering an impressive city panorama.
