About this experience
You will stroll through the streets of Old Riga and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of this wonderful place, which once served as a filming location for fairy-tale movies, detective stories, historical sagas, and melodramas. We will travel through space and time, easily moving from one state to another with just a few steps!
Program
What importance do filming locations have? Can a well-chosen street or house contribute to the success of a film, or conversely, does a successful movie determine the popularity of a particular city? Why do tourists diligently seek the house with a flower that Professor Pleischner did not notice, or stand for so long at the entrance to Sherlock Holmes' apartment? Is it idle curiosity or a love of art?
- Everyone knows (or almost everyone) that "Seventeen Moments of Spring" and "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson" were filmed in Riga. During the walk through the Old Town, we will visit the filming locations of these remarkable films.
- Amazingly, we will even step into another dimension by visiting "the Fairy Tale", as one of the versions of "The Snow Queen" was filmed in our city.
- You will also learn about other films shot in Riga, the role that other cities have played in the Latvian capital, which famous actors appeared on the streets of Riga, leaving an indelible impression in the hearts of the locals.
- We will dedicate a part of our tour to talking about how the career of Riga as a movie star began in the early 20th century, what films are being shot in Riga today, and why the Old Town continues to enjoy such unwavering success.
- An actor must have a good sense of humor. We will recall funny stories and anecdotes (how can we not, when one of the most popular characters in Riga's saga is Professor Pleischner).
Since our stroll will take place on the streets of Old Riga, I cannot ignore the city's history. Thus, you will receive basic information about Riga and at the same time learn unusual details from its cinematic life.
