About this experience
Our journey is a unique opportunity for laymen to see the medieval abodes of Mount Athos. On the ship, we will sail along the coast of Athos, explore the monasteries, and discuss their history, laws, and relics. As a frequent visitor to Athos, I can introduce you to the details of the life and worldview of monks and elders, which will touch a person of any faith.
What to expect
An exciting trip to Uranopolis
Depending on your location, the road to the port may take up to 2 hours, so I will definitely make the journey enjoyable with stories about the history of the Halkidiki peninsula. You will learn how olive oil is produced here, its varieties, and how to choose it correctly. You will see endless olive groves. In the town of Uranopolis, before the cruise begins, you will have time to take a walk and explore the 15th-century defensive tower.
Mount Athos: stories, miracles, and relics
The ship will sail along Athos at a distance of 500 meters from the shore. On the way, we are often surrounded by seagulls that can be fed by hand, and in the summer, dolphins accompany us! From the deck, you will have a great view of the 8 Orthodox monasteries that are part of the monastic state. Having visited Athos many times, I have gained a good understanding of the Holy Land from within, so I will gladly tell you about the daily life of monks, their activities, and worldviews. About the elders and hermits who have not left these places for 70 years. About the sacred relics stored in the treasuries, and why women are prohibited from setting foot on the land of Athos.
