About this experience
Cannes, like Nice, was a favorite vacation spot for the Russian nobility in the late 19th - early 20th centuries. People like Empress Maria Feodorovna, Grand Duke Mikhail Mikhailovich Romanov, Savva Morozov, Olga Khokhlova-Picasso, visited this place and left their mark in the city's history. We will follow this trail, as well as visit the film locations and places of Prosper Merime.
What to expect
Many famous Russian personalities stayed in Cannes and left behind such places as the Russian quarter with its charming Orthodox Church of Archangel Michael, the legendary InterContinental Carlton Cannes hotel, beautiful villas. We will find the Palace of Alexander, which stands on the site of Alexandra Fyodorovna Skriptsov's villa, and the Kazbek and Vendôme villas, where the Grand Dukes Romanov lived. If desired, we will also visit the Gran Jas Cemetery, where our distinguished compatriots are buried.
In addition to places related to Russian history in Cannes, we will not overlook such iconic locations as Palais des Festivals, Boulevard de la Croisette, the old town, and Suquet hill. We will stroll along the Alley of Stars, where we will again come across the Russian presence and Russian handprints.
Lastly, I will show you the corners of the city associated with the famous French writer and translator Prosper Merime.
