About this experience
The Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois cemetery has been in existence since 1927. It is the final resting place of many famous individuals: Tarkovsky, Bunin, Merezhkovsky, Nureyev, Galich, and others. I will share insights into the activities of the Russian aristocracy in Paris. I will provide dramatic details, intriguing anecdotes, stories of glory and success, poverty, and loneliness.
What to expect
During our 2-hour tour, we will:
- Visit the intimate Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos in the Pskov architectural style, where I sang for three years, hence I am well acquainted with the parish. I will share the story of the Parisian saint - Mother Maria, who perished in Auschwitz.
- Explore military memorials dedicated to Generals Wrangel and Kornilov, Admiral Kolchak, and Russian participants in the French Resistance. You will learn about the 'princess I do not know' and who among the famous figures considered Hitler a liberator.
- Read poetry and prose at the graves of Tarkovsky, Bunin, Gippius, Teffi, Galich, and Tuverov.
- Discuss the Parisian ballet schools of the Imperial Theater and Diaghilev's Russian Seasons. Witness Nureyev's mosaic tomb and discuss his bequest.
And much more!
