About this experience
A one-day car journey to the magnificent palace-monastery El Escorial and one of Spain's ancient capitals - the historic city of Segovia. You will be immersed in the fascinating life and secrets of powerful monarchs, the history of their great achievements, and rich heritage.
Itinerary
El Escorial.
A grand and yet restrained in architecture palace-monastery, built by all of Europe on the whim of Emperor Philip II with money from the Spanish colonies. A unique complex that brought together under one roof the royal residence, a temple, a school, a hospital, a library where the vaults are painted in imitation of the Sistine Chapel.
You will learn about the secrets of the powerful Philip II and his step-brother, who became the prototype of the well-known Don Juan. In the palace walls, the history of Don Carlos also began, inspiring Schiller's eponymous work. Before you lie the stories of kings, enclosed in the vaults and galleries of the palace, as well as a walk through the garden and a climb to a platform with a panoramic view.
Segovia.
The city where Queen Isabella the Catholic was proclaimed Queen of Castile, and which seems to still be keeping the secrets of the great queen. The romance and femininity of the city are evident in the ornate lace decorating the facades of houses, in the delicate decor of the temple, in the rather fairy-tale appearance of the castle, once the residence of the Catholic Monarchs.
You will visit the fortress, see the late-Gothic temple, and the unique aqueduct built according to the design of the ancient Romans. This aqueduct, towering in the center of the old town at 28 meters high, has become one of the main attractions.
A special pride of the residents of Segovia is the roasted suckling pig, cooked over coals, so we can stop for lunch where it is excellently prepared.
