Rotterdam and Kinderdijk: city of the future and village of windmills
About this experience
Want to experience contrasts? With me, you will find yourself in places where the past of fairy-tale Holland neighbors its vibrant future. First, we will stroll through Rotterdam - a futuristic city with the largest port in Europe. And then we will head to the pastoral Kinderdijk: where we will see landscapes immortalized in paintings by great artists and the world's largest windmill museum.
What to Expect
Rotterdam: futurism and gastronomy
We will walk through the former port area and talk about the city's reconstruction after the 1940 bombing. You will admire Rotterdam's futuristic architecture and understand why it is called the city of the future. Pose in front of the famous cubic houses and learn about the history of the Pilgrim Fathers' church. After a fulfilling walk, we will stop where you can try Dutch delicacies such as herring matjes, eel, kibbeling, and a variety of cheeses.
Kinderdijk: windmills and clogs
On a ferry, we will sail to the vast open-air museum of windmills - the village of Kinderdijk. This unique complex vividly illustrates the history of the Kingdom of Holland. I'll tell you how people fought against the elements on this land and the ingenious way they did it. I'll reveal the secrets of the local fishermen's trade and the nuances of peasant life. You will admire the landscapes that inspired great Dutch artists. And then attend a workshop on making clogs - traditional wooden shoes.
