About this experience
Rotterdam is unlike any other city in the Netherlands. It was almost completely destroyed during World War II and then rebuilt, setting the tone for bold and progressive architectural ideas and urban changes. On a sightseeing tour of Rotterdam, you will explore the main attractions of the city and learn how an inconspicuous village turned into one of the largest port cities in the world.
What to expect
Surviving City Hall
We will meet at the unusual ultra-modern Central Station building. During the walk, you will be surrounded by glass skyscrapers and unique structures. Special attention will be given to the city hall. This building, typical for Europe, is one of the few remaining old buildings in Rotterdam. You will stroll through the garden and inner courtyard, while I tell you about the history of the City Hall, the modern life of the mayor and the city.
Futuristic Market and Cubes
On the tour, you will learn all about the architectural styles of Rotterdam: I will help you not only navigate through the variety of directions and architect names, but also immerse yourself in the spirit of the city. You will visit the Rotterdam market located in a building with a colorful painted ceiling. Additionally, you will see the famous cube houses - an architectural complex that seems to defy all mathematical laws.
Erasmus Bridge and De Rotterdam
A white swan floats on the Maas River: this is Rotterdam's hallmark - the cable-stayed Erasmus Bridge. You will walk across it and discover the most interesting facts about its history, construction, and name. From the bridge, you will have a beautiful view of the city and the De Rotterdam building complex. You can also enjoy the beautiful views from a nearby observation deck.
Old-New Quarter
One of the major ports of the Old World is transforming today into a trendy district with endless cafes and shops. Here, you will see another miraculously preserved building - the Hotel New York, a former stepping stone for hopeful immigrants heading to America.
