About this experience
Amsterdam is a multifaceted city where ancient architecture harmoniously coexists with a vibrant art scene. I invite you to a walk that will reveal the astonishing Dutch architecture: whether it's the central station building, the Eye Film Museum, or simple residential houses, some of which can already be 3D printed.
What to Expect
I will tell you the history of the old shipyard, where the flea market is now located, where we will go, and teach you how to bargain. I will share interesting facts from the history of Amsterdam, reveal the secret of why carrots are orange, and what happened to people with big windows in their houses.
We will start from the central station, see the world's largest bicycle parking and amazing coal-black coverings, the view of which is only visible from the quay and is usually hidden from tourists. We will take a ferry across the river IJ and find ourselves in North Amsterdam, enjoy the stunning view from the river of the amazing modern building of the Eye Film Museum, and sail past an abandoned submarine.
On the way to the huge hangars of the old shipyard where the flea market takes place, we will see unusual container residential houses. At the market, you will find an insane amount of interesting things: English porcelain, Indian Christmas tree decorations, vinyl records, inlaid chests of drawers, signs of beer bars, and much more. It's a real paradise for antique collectors, artists, and thrifty housewives!
After that, you can try traditional Dutch potatoes or delicious waffles and visit the Eye Film Museum, where film archives are kept, starting from the first silent films of the 19th century and ending with modern ones, surprising viewers with powerful special effects. The museum also has a very interesting collection of old and new posters, photographs, and soundtracks. And most importantly, there are many interactive installations that will not only introduce you to different movies but also make you feel like a child in a wonderland.
We will then catch our breath at a cafe with an amazing panoramic view of the city, and after that, we will take a walk in a quiet garden in search of interesting sculptures.
