Rome at Dawn: Small Group Walking Tour in the Vatican Area
About this experience
Fall in love with Rome at first sight? Yes, from the early morning! This tour is dedicated to the most beautiful areas of Rome - the city center during the papal rule. To feel the atmosphere and history of these places, we will meet early, avoiding crowds and midday heat. We will have time to explore all the iconic landmarks and even have breakfast in a proper Roman bar with traditional cornetti.
What to Expect
Route: one of the very best in Rome!
In the times when the Eternal City was not yet divided into Rome and the Vatican, all its main treasures and beauties were located in these districts, between St. Peter's Basilica and Castel Sant'Angelo. You will see these two symbols of the city, stroll through the atmospheric Borgo quarter, admire Piazza del Popolo, find the Mausoleum of Emperor Augustus with cypresses on the roof, the former Roman port, and the trident of shopping. And we will part ways at the magnificent Spanish Steps.
Tales: from Vatican history to coffee
Rome's chronicles will seem like an exciting movie to you: sometimes drama, sometimes comedy. For example, you will learn why a street of reconciliation was built in the Vatican; what the 'Roman Borgo' is; why the People's Square instilled fear in every Roman and how the cardinals secretly 'evacuated' from San Pietro during the sieges of Rome. We will also talk about the traditions of the local breakfast, teach you how to navigate an Italian coffee shop, and suggest where to find 'Made in Italy' items in the Vatican area.
