Relics of Mtskheta and Uplistsikhe Caves
About this experience
You will see the most beautiful and important sights that usually make up full programs of three different tours. Explore the famous ancient temples of Mtskheta, visit the Uplistsikhe cave city, and learn about the production of Kartli wines.
What to Expect
Famous temples of Mtskheta - Jvari and Svetitskhoveli
You will visit the unique Jvari temple, interesting for its history, landscape, and architecture. Jvari is impossible to miss, visible from all around Mtskheta, which is unusual for Georgian temples. It is a symbol of Georgian temple architecture and signifies an important stage in its history. Jvari, with its architectural perfection, is one of the architectural masterpieces and the first World Heritage Site monument in Georgia. You will also visit the first and main temple of Georgia, Svetitskhoveli. Existing in its modern form since 1010, for a millennium it has been the main cathedral of all Georgia. Travelers from Tbilisi come here first and foremost.
Uplistsikhe cave fortress city and Atenuri Sioni
10 km from Gori, on the bank of the Kura River, lies one of the rarest monuments in the world - the ancient cave fortress city of Uplistsikhe, carved into the volcanic rocks of the Kvernaki ridge. You will get acquainted with a monument of Georgian cultural history mentioned as early as the 1st century BC! And a little further south of Gori, on the left bank of the Tana River, you will see the Atenuri Sioni church, built in the 630s, even before the Arab invasion, inside of which frescoes from the Golden Age (around 1080) have been preserved.
Tasting of Kartli wines and chacha
In this fertile corner of Georgia, great attention is paid to viticulture, although there are fewer vineyards here than in the Alazani Valley and Upper Imereti. Kartli is more associated with sparkling wines than other regions, with an Atenuri appellation for sparkling wines. The main white grape varieties of Kartli are Goruli Mtsvane and Chinuri, while the red varieties are Shavkapito and Tavkveri.

Spent the whole day on a tour with Alexander. Everything was great, especially the cave city. Alexander is an excellent storyteller, knowledgeable, and just a pleasant conversationalist. The car was comfortable, there were 6 of us and there was plenty of room for everyone. Many thanks!
