About this experience
Lokrum is a small island in the Adriatic Sea shrouded in numerous mysterious legends. I will tell you about its connections to Richard the Lionheart and Napoleon Bonaparte, the episodes of 'Game of Thrones' filmed here, and the fate of the local Benedictine Monastery. I will guide you through the most picturesque spots and help you fall even more in love with Croatia.
What to Expect
Lokrum: history, nature, and peacocks
15 minutes on a ferry - and we are on the island of Lokrum! You will see its main attractions: the remains of the Benedictine Monastery, the Botanical Garden, and the 'Dead Sea' lake. Relax in the shade of an olive grove, feed the friendly peacocks, and sit on the 'Iron Throne' from 'Game of Thrones'. Meet the local inhabitants - rabbits and donkeys - admire the sea panoramas, breathe the crystal-clear air, and see one of the largest collections of eucalyptus in Europe.
The 'Dark Past' of the Island
Island of Lokrum is often called 'cursed', surrounded by many legends and amazing stories. You will learn what is true and what is a beautiful fiction. I will talk about the life of Benedictine monks who settled here back in the 10th century. And how the monastery ruins were attempted to turn into a summer palace. I will also explain why no one lives on the island nowadays, but guards and firefighters are on duty 24/7.
