About this experience
Dresden remembers glory and defeats, bombings and meticulous restoration from ruins. It's a city-museum, called Florence on the Elbe. During our comfortable bus journey, you will explore Dresden with a guide and stroll around it on your own, while enjoying the beauty of Saxon nature along the way.
What to expect
Road from Czech Republic to Germany
You will leave Prague through the Liben district, an industrial suburb from the 19th century; pass by Terezin - a memorial to the victims of the Holocaust; see the turbulent Elbe River and medieval fortresses. And of course, admire the landscapes of the Czech and Saxon Switzerland.
Getting to know Dresden
In the historic center, you will have a walking tour covering the symbols of Dresden and introducing you to its complex history. You will see:
- Zwinger - an architectural complex where amid impressive baroque buildings, you will hear the chime of truly unique porcelain bells;
- Semper Opera, which was rebuilt after both fire and bombing;
- Procession of Princes - an outdoor wall panel made of porcelain tiles. The guide will tell you about the most interesting of the 94 depicted characters;
- Bruhl's Terrace - the Dresden waterfront: walking along it, you will understand why this place is called the balcony of Europe;
- Church of Our Lady, restored according to historical drawings, and many other iconic sights of Dresden.
Free time: art and treats
After the tour, you can visit the Gallery of Old Masters, where works such as Raphael's 'Sistine Madonna', Liotard's 'Chocolate Girl', Rembrandt's 'Self-portrait with Saskia on his lap', and other Renaissance artists' paintings are exhibited.
It's worth visiting the shopping galleries too: buy traditional porcelain and enjoy Saxon cuisine, for example, white veal sausages and quark balls. And in winter, Dresden will gift you with a magical Christmas market!
