Guru Rinpoche was a great Indian teacher who established Buddhism in Tibet. Explore the village of Parping where he attained enlightenment and visit sacred sites like temples. Discover the traditions and practices while hearing transformative stories that will shift your view of reality. If you wish, interact with lamas and participate in rituals.
What to Expect
I call Parping the tantric Bodh Gaya because it holds the same significance for Tibetan Buddhists as Bodh Gaya does for Buddhists worldwide. This is where the greatest tantric master Padmasambhava, known as Guru Rinpoche in Tibet, attained enlightenment. The practices revealed by Guru Rinpoche are believed to be especially effective in our challenging times.
You will visit the place of awakening of the greatest Buddhist master. Meditating here for even 5 minutes is considered extremely auspicious. Then, we will head to the Asura cave where you will learn key aspects of the master's life and practices for transforming your body and mind.
You will also visit other power places such as the Vajrayogini temple, the Adzom and Ripa temples, the Shakti cave of feminine power, and the temple of the 100 peaceful and wrathful deities. I will explain who the wrathful and peaceful deities are and why Tibetans pay such attention to their imagery.
Sample Itinerary with Timing
08:00 – Departure to Parping
09:15 – Puja (ritual offering) at the temple upon request or visit to the mandala of 100 deities
10:00 – Visit to Guru Rinpoche's cave and Tara temple, ascent to the viewpoint and meditation on the mountain if desired
12:00 – Transfer to Dolee
12:15 – Visit to the retreat center with a large statue of Guru Rinpoche and the Shakti cave
13:00–14:00 – Lunch at the monastery or café overlooking the Dolee Valley if desired
14:00 – Visit to the monasteries in Dolee
16:00 – Meeting with a Tibetan doctor, consultations and optional massage, visit to other attractions
17:00–18:00 – Return to the hotel
Organizational Details
- Additional Costs: Transportation – $80 for groups up to 7 people (Mahindra Scorpio), $100 for groups larger than 7 people (Toyota Hiace); lunch – optional
- Photography is prohibited inside some temples. Please check with me before taking any photos.
