About this experience
Travel through the surroundings of Marrakesh - meeting a completely different culture, unlike in the cities, which we will tell you all about. And many of these stories, we are sure, will surprise you! Here you can make a clay jug, bake bread, visit local residents, learn how a water mill works, ride mules or camels, climb to waterfalls and discover what modern African art is all about. And if you have enough energy - visit the wild monkeys living near the local waterfalls.
What to Expect
Berber Market and Local Residents
We will travel through a very picturesque river valley almost to the snow-capped peaks. We will visit a real nomadic Berber market (on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays) - here you can find absolutely everything a villager might need. It is not only very curious, but sometimes shocking spectacle. You will learn why it is necessary to "sprinkle ashes on the head" and who serves as a local information agency. You will observe how local "healers", storytellers, and barbers work, and even get acquainted with some of them. And if you're lucky, you might try to shoe a donkey.
Workshops, World of Aromatic Oils, and Beauty Secrets
On the way, we will stop at a very charming botanical garden with many endemic plants. If desired, you can participate in workshops on making bread, preparing Berber tajine, decorating hands with henna, see how argan oil is produced, or visit a Berber beauty salon - by the way, Berber ladies look stunning even well beyond seventy years old:). And what could be better for a traveler than soaking your feet in a bath with a massage of aromatic oils!
Everyday Life, Culture, and Traditions of the Berbers
You will visit a real adobe Berber village and enter the former home of a local sheikh. It is now an ethnographic museum, and it is a great pleasure to examine unseen household items and try to guess their purpose. This village is famous for its potters. Why not try your hand at the workshop? And let's talk about the history of this ancient people, their traditions, beliefs, and culture, and about why such a people "does not exist". We will also tell you the real detective story about Berber writing. Descending to a picturesque mountain river, we'll visit a Berber family. In this house, the only working water mill in the valley is preserved, which provides flour to all the surrounding areas. And then, if you are not afraid:), we will have a photo shoot on swinging suspension bridges.
Waterfalls and Lunch by the Mountain River
Near the picturesque cascade of waterfalls, you will meet wild monkeys - with them, too, are associated amazing stories. On the way, see how the finest lace carving is created from alabaster, which adorns Moroccan palaces and mosques. If you suddenly feel like a carver, you can try to create your own masterpiece. After climbing to the waterfalls, it is essential to have lunch right on the bank of the mountain river. If it's hot, a table will be set for us right in the water! Or we can go up to a magnificent restaurant in an ancient adobe Berber fortress. Lunch will be served in the garden with a magnificent view of the Atlas Mountains and the villages and terraced gardens clinging to their slopes.
