About this experience
Bhaktapur has everything that Nepal is loved for: a concentration of deities per square meter, colorful rituals, tranquility, delicate craftsmanship. Here you will immerse yourself in the chaotic yet perfectly functioning mechanism of life, where family, harvest, and belief in higher powers are the foundation. We will visit shops and temples, sit in cozy cafes, and open the hidden doors of the ancient city.
Why go to Bhaktapur
It is one of the smallest and cleanest cities in Nepal. Everything revolves around temples and religious ceremonies, and each person has a role in the community. You will walk through the narrow streets of a city permeated with a quest for spiritual and artistic perfection.
What to expect
Three main squares of Bhaktapur
- On Durbar Square, you will visit the unique 55-Window Palace, the Royal Bath, and the Goddess Taleju Palace, the very one that embodies the living goddess Kumari.
- On Dattatreya Square, we will visit the Temple of the Trinity - Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva - and make wishes.
- On Nyatapola Square, you will see the tallest building in the city, take colorful photos, and admire the temples of Bhairava and Siddhi Lakshmi, embodying knowledge of feminine and masculine energies in architecture.
Spiritual details of the city
I will tell you about the significance of Bhaktapur in Nepalese history and how the once prosperous capital fell into obscurity due to the legendary bravery of the locals.
You will also learn how the Shiv, Vishnu, and other deities' cult of devotion here transformed into Hinduism and Buddhism. What role do these religious differences play for the residents themselves? Each day in Nepal is unique, so it makes sense to explain what is happening on the spot.
Folk craftsmen and high-altitude coffee
In Bhaktapur, there is an amazing master who not only collected ancient artifacts in his house-museum but also carved Buddhist works on its columns and railings. You will examine them in detail and see the process of handmade paper production, which has been preserved for centuries. Right nearby, we will sit in a cafe - in a 15th-century house. Slowly sip Nepalese high-altitude coffee, close your eyes, and enjoy the atmosphere of the royal Bhaktapur!
