I invite you to travel to the surrounding areas of Kathmandu! You will visit the Swayambhunath Stupa on the outskirts of the capital and learn about the cremation ritual. After that, you will explore the amazing cities neighboring Kathmandu. In Kirtipur, you will get acquainted with the traditions of the indigenous Newar people. And in Lalitpur, you will admire ancient architecture and stroll through colorful streets.
What to expect
Sacred Swayambhunath Stupa
Located on top of Swayambhu hill, it will offer you a wonderful view of the Kathmandu Valley. You will learn why spiritual yoginis have been practicing here for centuries. You will visit the Buddhist museum, as well as see a collection of thanka paintings and mandalas. Additionally, you will see the site of cremations. I will share the details of this ritual and explain how Buddhist texts interpret death.
Newar city of Kirtipur
The Newars, indigenous inhabitants of the Kathmandu Valley, are famous for their unique culture. They still adhere to many ancient traditions. For example, they marry off girls to the sun and fruit of a tree. You will understand why one of the city's names translates to "the city of noseless." You will learn about the characteristics of Newar temple architecture, immerse yourself in the depths of local customs and rituals.
Lalitpur - one of the most beautiful cities in Nepal
According to legend, the Buddha Shakyamuni was in this place with his disciple Ananda. You will visit Durbar central square with a royal palace and temples, impressing with their skillful wood and stone carvings. Then you will stroll through the ancient alleys with traditional houses, peeking into beautiful courtyards and artisan shops.
